I care about my clients and will always take time to learn about your body and its individual strengths and weaknesses. I pay close attention and give individual correction each lesson. Pilates is a scientific and detailed system of exercise, to see results I think it is important you learn from someone who understands and communicates the fundamental principles.
I believe pilates has something to offer everybody irrespective of age or ability. I work to use appropriate modifications and equipment to accommodate differing abilities, body types and injuries. I take pride in challenging and motivating my clients in a safe and knowledgeable way.
I feel that a great instructor should be passionate about pilates and help you to enjoy your class. My sessions are friendly and non-competitive. You are encouraged to work to your own ability in class, each person working progressively to meet their individual goals. At the end of each session you will leave with a smile on your face, feeling strengthened, lengthened and revitalised.
I began my study of Pilates in 1995 whilst training as a professional dancer at the London College of Dance and Drama. I was lucky enough to receive this early tuition from Miranda Bass, a highly respected master trainer and author of 'The Complete Classical Pilates Method'. Miranda is a superb practitioner and her thorough approach and devotion to the technique was a huge inspiration to me. Pilates was a compulsory part of my training and my enjoyment of the technique has grown over the years.
Whilst dancing professionally I saw the many ways in which Pilates enhanced my own strength and performance and greatly assisted in the rehabilitation of those who were injured. After the birth of my two young children I completed the training to become a STOTT pilates instructor to share the benefits of the technique with others. I chose STOTT Pilates because it is a contemporary approach incorporating modern scientific evidence on the human anatomy and spinal rehabilitation. Thankfully, its modernisation from the original teachings of the late Joseph Pilates means a wider range of people can now participate and experience the benefits pilates can bring.
Pilates is not a quick fix. In my classes I aim to educate you to make long-term physical change. We focus on working the muscles from the inside out. i.e. training the deepest layers of supportive muscle in the torso whilst increasing flexibility in the larger superficial muscles. This protects the lower back, stabilises the trunk and permits the body to perform functional movements with ease and fluidity. Not only does Pilates reshape the body giving a longer, leaner appearance, it also reduces the risk of future pain or discomfort by preventing any excessive strain being placed on the joints, spine and pelvis.
In our busy lives it is so easy to forget to take care of ourselves. Sometimes we put off starting because we feel daunted or lack motivation. It is important to remember that exercise does not have to be physically punishing, it can be calm, thoughtful and enjoyable. It is never too late to start investing in your own physical well being.
